Dr Gerald Coakley is a Consultant Physician & Rheumatologist, and Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians.
He has a PhD in the molecular immunogenetics of Felty’s syndrome (a rare complication of rheumatoid arthritis), and has wide experience of inflammatory rheumatic disease including rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and connective tissue diseases such as lupus, myositis and Sjogren’s syndrome.
He has a particular interest in chronic fatigue syndrome / myalgic encephalomyelitis (CFS/ME), chronic pain, fibromyalgia, whiplash, complex regional pain syndrome and other medically unexplained physical symptoms. He has run an interdisciplinary service for CFS/ME in the private sector since 2007.
He has extensive experience in providing medicolegal reports for both Claimant and Defendant in relation to personal injury, and is happy to consider medical negligence cases. His current waiting time is within 4 months with a report completed within 4 weeks of the appointment date.
He prepares claimant / defendant / joint reports in a ratio of roughly 20/70/10%. He has been preparing medicolegal reports since 2009, and has completed over 600 reports on cases with various sorts of inflammatory arthritis, as well as many relating to fibromyalgia, complex regional pain syndrome, post fracture pain and other chronic pain syndromes as well as chronic fatigue syndrome.
He has completed courses in medicolegal report writing with Specialist Info, a courtroom skills course with Bond solon, and has attended annual conferences with Bond Solon and with Specialist Info as recently as June 2024.
