Mr Ashley Simpson is a dual fellowship-trained Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in adult and paediatric brachial plexus, peripheral nerve and complex upper limb surgery. He holds a substantive Consultant post at the world renowned Peripheral Nerve Injury Unit at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore, and leads a busy medicolegal practice, providing independent expert evidence in clinical negligence and personal injury matters, with a particular focus on nerve injury, brachial plexopathy, iatrogenic injury, thoracic outlet syndrome and complex shoulder and upper limb reconstruction.
His academic foundation is strong: he read Neuroscience at St John’s College, University of Cambridge, holds an MA(Cantab), an MSc in Trauma Science, postgraduate qualifications in Medical Education and Clinical Data Science, and is a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Educators. He has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed publications, and regularly delivers invited national and international presentations.
Mr Simpson combines active tertiary referral clinical practice with national and international leadership roles. He is a member of the NHS England Specialised Services Commissioning Work Group for brachial plexus and peripheral nerve surgery, the British Elbow and Shoulder Society Education Committee, the SICOT Shoulder and Elbow Subcommittee, and the Global Nerve Foundation. He is Associate Editor of Shoulder & Elbow, Specialty Upper Limb Editor for the Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, Chair of Trustees of Pain UK, and course director for specialist brachial plexus and peripheral nerve education.
